Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin Strategy Continues to Yield Explosive Results
Michael Saylor’s strategy for accumulating Bitcoin has been a resounding success, with his company, MicroStrategy (formerly Strategy), experiencing a 2930% increase in stock value since it began investing in the cryptocurrency in 2020. This remarkable performance was highlighted by Sentora (formerly known as IntoTheBlock) in a recent tweet, which also noted that MSTR has outperformed Bitcoin by 63% over the past three months alone.
In 2020, Strategy shocked traditional markets by announcing its decision to use Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve. This bold move has paid off handsomely, with Strategy’s market cap exceeding $80 billion. On May 26, Strategy revealed the acquisition of 4,020 BTC for nearly $427.1 million at a price of $106,237 per Bitcoin. As of May 25, 2025, Strategy holds an impressive 580,250 BTC acquired for $40.61 billion at a cost of $69,979 per Bitcoin.
Despite this remarkable success, Michael Saylor has not signaled any intention to alter his strategy. In fact, he remains committed to accumulating more Bitcoin, expecting the cryptocurrency’s value to continue to appreciate over time. "There has been an explosion of interest in companies purchasing Bitcoin," Saylor stated recently, highlighting the growing popularity of this investment approach.
Saylor’s comments were underscored by recent announcements from other prominent companies, including GameStop (NYSE:GME), which revealed a $500 million allocation for Bitcoin purchases. Additionally, Tether, SoftBank (TYO:9984), and Strike’s Jack Mallers announced the creation of Twenty-One, a Bitcoin-native public corporation that plans to emerge with more than 42,000 BTC on its balance sheet.
Strategy’s lead position in corporate Bitcoin holdings is not expected to change anytime soon. In fact, Saylor has publicly stated that his company will continue to accumulate Bitcoin, even if it becomes increasingly difficult to do so due to escalating prices and competition from other investors. "We expect the price of Bitcoin will keep going up," Saylor said firmly. "We think it will get exponentially harder to buy Bitcoin, but we will work exponentially more efficiently to buy Bitcoin.
