Stocks Rise: Jack in the Box, Starbucks, Wendy’s, and More See Gains

March 9, 2026

A surge of optimism is currently sweeping through the fast-food sector, evidenced by significant gains in the afternoon trading session following a positive outlook from Bernstein analysts. The firm’s revised projections anticipate a substantial recovery throughout 2026, a welcome shift from the challenging conditions experienced during 2025. That year was characterized by declining consumer confidence, impacting spending habits across various industries. However, analysts foresee a gradual return in traffic, driven by several converging factors that could stimulate renewed consumer demand. These factors include the anticipated passage of a revised Tax Bill and the upcoming U.S.-hosted Soccer World Cup, both of which are expected to have a noticeable effect beginning in the spring months. Notably, restaurant valuations have reached 10-year lows, signaling potential upside gains if consumer spending data demonstrates a positive trend.

Furthermore, the prospect of increased tax rebate checks represents another significant catalyst for a rebound in casual dining. Following a period of reduced consumer spending on dining out, largely due to inflationary pressures, the prospect of substantial government rebates is widely considered a key driver for a resurgence in demand for restaurants. Several key stocks reacted strongly to this renewed confidence. Jack in the Box (NASDAQ:JACK) saw an impressive rise of 8.2%, prompting questions among investors about whether this is an opportune moment to acquire the stock. Similarly, Kura Sushi (NASDAQ:KRUS) experienced a jump of 4.2%, leading to speculation about potential investment opportunities. The market also reacted positively to Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), which increased by 4.3%, and Wendy’s (NASDAQ:WEN), which climbed 3.3%. The Cheesecake Factory (NASDAQ:CAKE) also contributed to the gains, rising by 3.2%.

A deeper look at Jack in the Box reveals the company’s volatility, with shares experiencing 52 moves exceeding 5% in the past year. Today’s positive movement indicates that the market acknowledges the news as significant, though it doesn’t fundamentally alter the overall perception of the business. Recent market activity has been heavily influenced by the company’s previous transaction. Just fourteen days prior, the stock experienced a notable drop of 3.3% following the announcement of the sale of its Del Taco subsidiary for approximately $119 million. This deal represented the culmination of a strategic plan to reduce debt and transition to a more streamlined business model with fewer physical assets. The acquisition of Del Taco in 2022 for around $585 million resulted in a substantial financial loss for the company, highlighting broader financial challenges that had been previously masked. Despite this setback, Jack in the Box has shown considerable growth this year, increasing by 9.7% as of the beginning of the year. Currently trading at $20.55 per share, the stock is still 51.7% below its 52-week high of $42.58, set back in February 2025. Investors who made a $1,000 investment in Jack in the Box five years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $212.66. The fast-food sector is also seeing a less publicized but critical development: an under-the-radar semiconductor supplier is dominating the production of a vital AI component that major companies like Nvidia require to operate. This highlights a shift in supply chains and technological dependencies within the broader tech landscape.
